DFT characterization on the mechanism of water splitting catalyzed by single-Ru-substituted polyoxometalates.
Water oxidation is a key half reaction in the energy conversion scheme. The reaction mechanism for the oxidation of H2O to O2 catalyzed by single-Ru-substituted polyoxometalates, [Ru(III)(H2O)XW11O39](n-) (X = Si(IV), Ge(IV)), was investigated by means of density functional calculations. The electronic structure of the pre-activation intermediates indicates that the aqua ligand is prone to acco...
متن کاملRefractory Element Fractionation (os/ir, Rh/ir, Ru/os) in Impact Craters: Projectile
Introduction: Meteorite crater studies [1-4] confirmed an extraterrestrial contamination in Rochechouart and Sääksjärvi impactites. Recently non-magmatic iron meteorites (IA and IIIC) have been suggested as projectiles for both craters [4], in contradiction to previous studies [1-3] favour magmatic irons. Non-refractory elements and Cr isotopes: Ni/Cr, Co, and Au are less useful for projectile ...
متن کاملAn unusual photosensitizer: dyad of eosin-tris(2,2'-bipyridine)Ru(II).
[structure: see text] A dyad of eosin and tris(2,2'-bipyridine)Ru(II) was prepared, and its photophysical properties were investigated. The photosensitization of eosin is greatly enhanced by introduction of tris(2,2'-bipyridine)Ru(II), which is verified via photooxygenation of anthracene derivatives. The electron-transfer mechanism of photosensitization is also discussed.
متن کاملPhotocatalysis
Finding long-term solutions to meet the growing energy demands of the human society is one of the greatest challenges of our age. Photocatalysis, a topic of many decades of attention, has recently received renewed and more intense interest in developing innovative solutions towards achieving our sustainability goal. Though immensely inspired by natural photosynthesis, the research on artificial...
متن کاملObserved and Theoretical Differences Between Ru(II) and Ir(III) Based Photosynthetizing Agents
Photosensitizing agents have been of interest for several decades due to their many catalytic applications. Photosensitizers capable of converting hydronium ions into hydrogen gas have recently become of particular interest as people look for renewable energy sources. Traditionally Ru(II) based complexes have been used for photoinduced hydrogen production, but some recent research indicates tha...
